The Book of Numbers describes the forty-year journey of the Israelites who came out of Egypt, a symbol of the world, traveling through the wilderness until they reached the plains of Moab just before entering the promised land of Canaan. This journey was not only the march of faith of God’s people 3,500 years ago but also reflects the spiritual pilgrimage of today’s believers who press on toward the eternal Canaan. It shows when and under what circumstances God’s people stumbled and when and how they were able to rise again and continue their march as the Lord’s warriors.
