이때까지 칼빈주의 5대 교리는 신학교 ‘강의단상’(講義壇上)에서는 줄기차게 강의되었다. 그러나 이상하게도 교회의 ‘설교단상’(説教壇上)에서는 설교되지 않았다. 이것은 신학교의 수업 시간과 교회 현장의 설교 사이에서 나타나는 심각한 불균형이다. 이것은 강의와 설교(teach & preach) 사이의 부조화이며, 교수와 설교자(a teacher & a preacher) 사이의 부조화다. 그동안 칼빈주의는 머리로만 전달되었지 영혼 속에 울림을 주지 못했다. 그래서 나는 본서를 통하여 이러한 심각한 현상적 문제를 조금이나마 해소하고 싶어 본서를 썼다. 그래서 진정한 성경적 구원관(하나님의 주권적 은혜를 통한 구원)을 한국 교회 속에 되살리는 데 조금이나마 도움을 주고 싶다.
Until now, the Five Points of Calvinism have been consistently taught in seminary lecture halls, yet, curiously, they have rarely been preached from church pulpits. This reveals a serious imbalance between theological instruction in the classroom and preaching in the life of the church—a disconnect between teaching and preaching, and between the roles of teacher and preacher. As a result, Calvinism has often remained a matter of intellectual understanding rather than a truth that resonates within the soul. Through this book, the author seeks to address this imbalance and, even in a small way, help restore a truly biblical understanding of salvation—one grounded in God’s sovereign grace—within the Korean church.
