언약사상은 개혁신학의 진수 중의 진수이다. 개혁신학의 진수를 채광(採鑛)하기 위해서는 과거 개혁자들의
신학을 살펴야 한다. 본서는 세계에서 유일한 장로교 국가인 스코틀랜드의 교회사에 나타나는 언약신학의 몇몇 특징들을 규명하였다. 본서는 먼저 성경의 언약 개념과 초대와 중세 교회의 역사 및 종교개혁과 이후 역사 속에서 언약사상의 발전과 적용점을 상고하였다. 특별히 존 낙스의 주도하에 성취된 1560년 스코틀랜드의 종교개혁으로부터 1723년의 마로우 논쟁까지의 언약사상의 전개와 발전을 집중적으로 연구하고, 이 언약 개념이 어떻게 태동, 발전하였으며, 역사의 격변기에 어떻게 적용되었는지를 고찰하였다.
The History of Scottish Covenant Thought
Covenant theology is the very essence of Reformed theology. To extract the core of Reformed theology, we must examine the works of the reformers of the past.
Theology must be examined. This book identifies several characteristics of covenant theology as it appears in the church history of Scotland, the world's only Presbyterian nation. The book first examines the biblical concept of covenant and its development and application in the history of the early and medieval church, as well as during and after the Reformation.
This study focuses on the development and evolution of covenant theology from the Scottish Reformation of 1560, achieved primarily under the leadership of John Knox, to the Marrow Controversy of 1723, examining how this concept of covenant originated, developed, and was applied during periods of historical upheaval.
